Riding Lessons
Our Program

At Armadale Stables home of Ride That Horse Equestrian Park our focus is first and foremost on the enjoyment of the horse and being safe while doing so. Our lessons are taught by an Equine Canada Certified Coach , so you can be sure you or your child are receiving instruction from an indivudual held to the highest of standards in both knowledge and safety!

You do not need to own a horse or your own equipment to come ride with us. We provide excellent well trained school horses, an ASTM approved equestrian helmet to borrow for your session, all of the tack and equipment for the horse, and a fun, expertly trained instructor!
Your requirements are simple - You simply need to wear boots that cover the ankle with a one inch heel,  have long hair tied back, and be attired in long pants and long sleeved shirt.

We welcome new and experienced riders from ages child to adult to participate in our diverse multidisciplinary program. Our Equine Canada competitive coach also offers lessons on your own horse and Armadale Stables offers limited boarding space should you require it.

All lessons teach horsemanship skills, grooming, tacking up, walk/trot-jog, turns, diagonals, and rising trot/canter depending on riders’ skill level and goals.  May include fences, saddle seat, patterns or dressage depending on discipline of choice.  Lessons are one hour in length.

Prospective students can come for a  booked in advance appointment to tour the farm, meet the horses and our instructors and discuss goals as well as review our program options!

To ensure the comfort of our riders, Armadale Stables has a heated indoor arena as well as a large outdoor arena and round pen for lessons in all types of weather. There is also 1600sq feet of space dedicated to lockers, bathroom, viewing lounge and a fully functional kitchen.

Lesson Types

At Ride That Horse Equestrian we know that the needs of each student are very diverse, so we offer several different types of lessons for the best experience.  We offer school horse lessons for mainstream riders, therapeutic riders and para-riders.  Our lesson plans can be adapted and we have instructors and coaches that teach from beginner to advanced.

Youth and Adults:
*Level One:  Designed for the first time rider:  Riders commit to  trying four one hour lessons, this allows us to explore skill level, riding goals and develop primary horsemanship skills such as safety, grooming, tacking, saddling,  and beginning riding movements of halt/ walk/ trot/ circles/ diagonals/ reverse/back.  These are taught  with a 1-1 instructor to student ratio.
*Level Two:  This level builds on the basics learned in introductory, and increases the students comfort level with their horse.
*Level Three: Riders have now developed an ability to manage a horse in the arena and are comfortable at the walk/trot.  They now start to canter and refine their horsemanship skills.
Riders can now comfortably ride all gaits, and are learning turn on haunch and forehand, simple lead changes, equitation patterns and may explore specific disciplines such as :  dressage, western pleasure, jumping, saddle seat, English pleasure, competitive trail, etc.
*Pre-Competitive:  For our more entrenched riders who just can’t get enough horses in their lives.  Pre-Competitive helps the rider chose their area of focus and work towards developing the skill level to compete in horse shows.
*Competitive:  Horse Shows, Competition and lots of dedication.  Competition is not for everyone, but it can be very rewarding.

*Adult Riders:  This class is specifically set aside for adults, from those are getting on a horse for the first time to those who are returning to riding after raising their families.  This is a rider centered class and focuses on the riders goals and aspirations, all levels are welcomed.
*Adult Private:  This class is one rider and one instructor only.  These lessons are designed to increase the rider’s skills or for the more advanced rider or Adult beginner seeking higher-level training. Lessons may include lunge line seatwork at riders’ request.
*Equine Canada Rider Levels/Instructor Program:  This is a skill based program designed by Equine Canada that is recognized throughout Canada, and is recognized at several colleges. Program includes stable management, mounted and on ground assessments and written work. Participants must have basic riding foundation to begin this program and be interested in developing more advanced skills.

We also offer the Equine Canada Certified Instructor/Assistant Instructor Program.
